right in the heart of a pine forest and bears the unique atmosphere of the
Rhodopi Mountains.
The development combines the traditional
Bulgarian architectural style with all modern facilities and offers wonderful
views towards the beautiful Peak Snejanka. Pamporovo, the pearl of the Bulgarian
mountain resorts lies in the heart of the Rhodope Mountains, 260 km from the
capital – Sofia, 85 km south of Plovdiv.

Pamporovo is a purpose-built modern ski resort located
near to the Greek border. It is the sunniest mountain
resort in Bulgaria and the most southern ski resort in Europe, with a skiing
season running from mid-December to mid-April. It has an average of 120 sunny
days throughout the 150 day season and the temperature does not change abruptly,
so there is little danger of avalanche, making the resort safe and tranquil. The
resort is scattered over the lower slopes of Mount Snezhanka (1926m), which has
a rounded profile making it particularly suitable for families and ski
beginners.
In Pamporovo itself, there are many shops and a variety of restaurants and
bars. Visitors can enjoy the traditional Rhodope cuisine, which includes Lamb
Kebab (cheverme), Stuffed Vine Leaves (sarmi), white Bean Stew (smolenski bob),
and a local variation of the traditional Bulgarian cheese banitsa and all at a
very reasonable cost.
Apart from skiing, other winter activities include snowboarding, tobogganing
and husky dog-sleds. Pamporovo is becoming more popular in summer too with
guided walking, cycling tours, tennis courts, horse riding and hiking. From the
top of the Snezhanka peak there are wonderful views over the Central Rhodopes
and the Thracian Plain and on a clear day you can see the Rila and Pirin
mountain ranges and even to Greece.
Pamporovo is without doubt, the most 'upmarket' ski resort in Bulgaria. Boasting
27 ski runs and a resort built on the slopes (Bansko is 12km away from the
nearest ski lift - if the gondola doesn't work, you have to get a taxi!)
Pamporovo offers a wonderful opportunity to ski and enjoy the stunning Bulgarian
scenery.
The “Perelik” project plans to connect the Perelik peak in
Pamporovo with the Mechi Chal peak, near Chepelare. The project includes an
additional 29.8 kilometres ski pistes and associated facilities for Pamporovo
alone. . At the moment Chepelare has 12 kilometres of ski pistes, with the
Perelik project aiming to include another 27 kilometres of new ski pistes, 12
kilometres of lifts, 15 kilometres ski run pistes and a new winter sports
stadium. Pamporovo has already undergone an exciting period of growth with
five new ski pistes added last season alone. Five new snow cannons and 28
hydrants have also been added to ensure skiers maximum skiing enjoyment.
